In fact, I discovered that I indeed am lesbian because I found out about men having something very much like the lesbian sheep syndrome being like “I think the gender role is bullshit but it’s not like I can stop being a man” and I was like “this is not me because I have no reason to keep trying to be a man, how silly of me in hindsight” and then protomethea was lesbian.

It was pretty cool. Many interesting humans. It was also the first time I became directly acquainted with the community’s gender-ratio issue, since I had mostly been in groups that were more gender-balanced until now.
I was not at all surprised by the ethnic balance, though. I made sure to introduce myself as “Alison sinesalvatorem. Y’know, the black girl on Tumblr. Yes: the.”
I met @slatestarscratchpad, who is cool. There was a dramatic reading of the upcoming Unsong interlude (that all you non-Bay plebs have to wait til Wednesday to hear), in which I voiced a character.
Besides Scott, the only new Tumblr-person I met irl was @eccentric-opinion. However, when greeting him, I used a slightly different introduction. I reached out to shake his hand and said “Hi, I’m a Marxist!”
We are solving the gender ratio issue one transition at a time.

We should construct a platform for auctioning transitions; people who want to make the gender ratio more equal could donate money and people who are the most willing to transition could be paid to do it. It could also be used to coordinate things like doctor access, purchasing drugs, social support against hostile outsiders etc. to lower the trans-action costs.

AFAICT, it’s because a lot of rightists and edgelords who refuse to censor their self-expression just because someone finds it offensive were very offended by people being cute and cuddly where other people could see them.
They think it is not Serious Person Attitude because only manly stoics who never show emotions other than shedding a single tear over the tragic necessity of having to oppress all the not-white-man-people are Serious People.
This made them conclude that the people who aren’t interested in keeping up a facade of Serious Person are n e o t e n i c degenerates; the men are either cucks or women, the women are sluts, and the rest don’t real.
Everyone else laughed because the Serious Persons are the ones missing out on all the cuddling and polyamory and hotness pills and being able to show vulnerability and sincerity and still being able to be an impressive achiever if that’s what one is into (example: me).

We could put you in a sexy outfit and have you dart around the edges of the Blue Tribe, enticing young girls to follow you into the Forests of Rationalism like some kind of gay will-o-the-wisp.

As someone who grudgingly matches the description “girl” (at least by people who don’t know that my brain wants to belong in the “totally made-up category” of “N E O T E N I C androgyny” instead) and who perfectly matches the description “I was too nervous to talk to anyone but then I talked to @sinesalvatorem and she was super nice, and then I made a bunch of other friends!” I wholeheartedly endorse this approach.
For most X, the best way to get more women who are X is to get women who are not X to be X. But, Rationalism seems to have pretty good luck getting non-woman Rationalists to be women.
I am going to pretend that I am evidence for this, even though I am not.
Datapoint reporting in. Yudkowsky changed my gender over a one-way text-only communication channel. Or maybe it was the plastics in the water, and LW just triggered it. Nonetheless, I read the sequences (except for the part on quantum mechanics), and deduced that I should go on hormones. It was a very successful individual application of X-rationality.
